Cupboard Top Spring Garden Vignette

Hi Friends, it's hard for me to believe, but I haven't shared the cookbook cupboard (in real time) since last late summer. It has been seasonally decorated, but somehow didn't make it to the blog. Since I love decorating with a garden theme for spring I wanted to make sure that I share the latest on the cupboard top. 

On Top of the Cupboard

Before we moved to this house I used my kitchen china cupboard in the sitting/casual kitchen dining area and kept some fun garden decor on the top year round. So when we moved here I quickly realized that same setup wouldn't work. The china cabinet was having to move to the garden room with no wall behind it, just a band of windows. In it's place I substituted the "Cookbook Cupboard" using the scrolly framed chalkboard as a backdrop just like the other cupboard.

I've put away most of the "Easter Bunny" decor and now I'm having fun with a vintage garden theme. This cupboard top is smaller than the china cabinet, so I found another wicker laundry basket that was a better fit. I'd painted it a French Gray a few years ago, but gave it a quick wash of "antique white" so it would show up a bit better in photos.

I found this adorable wicker/wood small wheelbarrow at Factory Direct last week and knew I wanted to incorporate it into the basket display somehow. I keep this little rabbit out year round because he doesn't look "Easter-y". So he's hanging out in the wheelbarrow along with some peat pots ready for seed planting.

I also brought back the vintage white birdcage that I'd used at the last house. A few orange vintage metal garden tools are color coordinating with the orange tulips, carrots, and garden gloves.

I switched out the grapevine birds nest for the mini clay pots.

And a vintage concrete "Greek Key" garden urn with some faux yellow iris.

I keep things relatively the same on the actual cupboard shelves, and like to keep a kitchen or garden-y theme.

This is a vintage yellowware pottery bowl that I love for summer displays. Faux pears are a year round bowl filler here.

Over the weekend I took photos when I had a sunny day, perfect for an open door and plenty of natural light. When I got around to editing them this week, I realized that I hadn't "floofed" the iris plant and it was a sorry mess. Anyone else miss a problem and don't catch it until the photos are already shot and "in the can"? So I had to wait till yesterday for another day that worked, and then I made sure the faux iris had a little special floofing attention!

Behind as a backdrop is my favorite chippy white picket fence gate and my stack of painted wicker lunch baskets.
