September Mantel with Ironstone and Transferware

Does decorating for Fall sound better once it becomes September? I think there is a subtle shift in my brain's ability to bring out some pumpkins and leaves once we're officially past Labor Day. I've had my Fall tubs out for several weeks, but I just couldn't get excited until this last week. Plus the weather has cooled down a bit and the light seems to be making those longer shadows that don't happen till Autumn is on our doorstep.

I've been playing around with the mantel in the Hearth Room this last several weeks, wanting a change but not sure which direction to go. I knew I wanted to use some brown transferware, but I only have the two brown pitchers. So I improvised a bit and used two of my vintage ironstone pitchers to balance it all out.

I like to use pears in early Fall, and I love their French Country vibe, so for now there are pears here on the mantel. There will probably be pumpkins showing up really soon, though. Funny how you don't notice things that glare at you until you take the pics and edit them. That being how ragged the dried hydrangeas are in the pitchers. I didn't have blooms on my bushes this year due to the fact we pruned them last Fall. So these dried hydrangeas are older, and scragglier.

I'm using one of my favorite canvas prints that I put together years ago. It looks better when the bright lights aren't highlighting the fact that it wasn't fitting the canvas. You can read that original post HERE.

That's one of the things that I love about this print, is that it works year round.

Here's the mantel from August. I had the topiaries up there so I added the pitchers, but then decided that I needed to use the small white lanterns instead. That sort of tweaking happens all the time around here. I start out with something, then change it up so much it becomes something else entirely.
