The highlight of any season is putting together the ever-changing Holiday Cupboard. And since Fall is my favorite time of the year, it takes on a new and different theme each year. I put this look together for September a few weeks ago. At that time I wanted to keep the pumpkins at a minimum and highlight the wild little black-eyed-susans and bits of bittersweet and mini gourds.
Most of the time I really don't have much of a plan, I just find myself stacking up dishes and adding this and that to the mix. I started grabbing pitchers and teapots that had fall colors and themes. Of course the Brown Transferware always sets the stage in Autumn.
This is an interesting little pitcher with the stag on one side and a pair of hunting dogs on the other. It doesn't have any markings, but it looks British to me. And it's perfect for Autumn.
I wish I had real bittersweet, but it's getting harder and harder to find, and I don't want to take chances trying to harvest it in the wild as it likes to hang out with poison ivy. Last year I had to pitch what I had because it was so old and dropping it's poisonous little berries. At that time the kitty girls were still around and they loved to eat anything that was laying around on the floor.
I'm using the Myott Brown Finlandia plates and the Myott Bouquet china that I found a couple of years ago.
Cottageware creamers always add a bit of charming hominess.
The sheep hadn't been included for a while, so the little fabric brown one and white one wanted in on the fun. I love how the little brown fella really looks perfect among the brown dishes and the dried florals. I always share them at Easter and Christmas, but why not Fall too?
The vintage stepstool got a little dressing up with a bee skep theme for Fall.
Here's the post on the Boho Quilt from earlier this month.

Your cupboard is gorgeous filled with the transferware and autumn pieces. I definitely need to collect more brown transferware! I have one piece that was part of my great grandmother's first set of dishes that I cherish. It's from 1880! It's been repaired but that just adds to the charm in my opinion. I recently found a small tureen in brown transferware that is so pretty - not sure what it would have been used for, it's too small for soup but too big for gravy! We're having wonderful fall weather after a terribly hot, dry summer. Such a relief. Jan in MA
ReplyDeleteHi Jan, thanks so much, you may have what they called a covered vegetable "tureen". They are smaller that a soup or stew tureen. Sounds really pretty. I have a few of them in random vintage patterns. They make for beautiful display pieces in vignettes. Oh how nice that you're getting pretty fall weather. We have a warm spell coming up this weekend, and we really need rain. I'm so looking forward to the leaves changing!
DeleteI always love your holiday cupboard and the brown transferware is especially beautiful. I love that tureen/covered dish. You have so many lovely touches and pieces and know how to make them work together beautifully. I especially love the sheep!
ReplyDeleteoh thankyou Jeanie, it's so fun to play in that silly cupboard. And yes, you know how much I love sheep!
DeleteCatching up this weekend on my reading, happy to see your brown transferware and sheep. Your holiday cupboard is one of my favorite decor pieces of yours, just because of how you thrive (and we enjoy) showcasing your collections inside! The bittersweet is definitely hard to find, but I have a girlfriend who goes out and scavenges it every year. :) I still have most of my transferware in storage, but will be sure to bring those old friends out again by next year (we are soon to mark our one year in this house next week!). I don't know you Aesthetic maker, but it looks very similar to a platter I have. I have a Staffordshire reference book that I used to refer to, and it does explain how to read the diamond registry marks. Love the sheep. My flock stays out year round, I love them so, and they stay tucked away in an alcove near the powder room.
ReplyDeleteLove your September touches! Send me your address again and I will wrap up some dried bittersweet vine in bubblewrap and send it your way soon so you can enjoy it for fall. I have plenty growing just across the street so I will give you some of mine and just clip some fresh to use here this year and let it dry for next year's decor.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love everyone of those little pots and pitchers. The colors are fabulous for fall. Never thought to use my bee skeps during fall either. I need to find them!
ReplyDeleteThe holiday cupboard is adorable and never disappoints. That brown transferware tureen is amazing. I love your darling sheep.
