Vintage Cottage Weekend: Flower Pot Wreath with a Garden Update

What do you get when you combine vintage French seed packet labels and whitewashed clay flower pots on a grapevine wreath?  Well, you get a wonderfully unique Spring wreath full of vintage garden-y goodness! Over the years there have been so many beautiful renditions of flower pot wreaths; each one slightly different as they take on the decor personality of the creator. 

I think the first time I saw a flower pot wreath must have been about 2012 because I decided to create my own version soon after. I wanted to give the pots a more "used" vintage garden look, like lime had deposited over the years. So I bought new pots and dry brushed them with chalky paint and tied them with gardener's twine to a grape vine wreath. That was good, but I wanted to add a little color with another layer of "vintage". Here it is in 2013, the Veggie Garden Flower Pot Wreath.

I love vintage ephemera and anything vintage seed and garden related. I had recently located old French seed packet labels, so I added them to oversize tags and attached them to the wreath. That gave me a bit of color and a different look and take on the "flower pot wreath". 

This year I have the wreath on the old pie safe in the Garden Room. That antique piece of furniture has lovingly been dubbed "The Holiday Cupboard" and is a special spot for antique and vintage dish display. It's also become a perfect spot to display seasonal and holiday wreaths.

This year I wanted to bring in a few elements to update the look. I added a small wild twiggy grapevine wreath that's become a spot for a bird's nest. There's also a sweet green birdie, and mini French gardening tools on top. During spring, the Potting Shed sign can usually be found somewhere on the front of the cupboard.

And it's my favorite place for all things vintage Garden!

Last year I used the Flower Pot Garden Wreath in the Hearth Room on the antique sideboard.  I wanted to try it in a new spot and it fit in my little wooden wheelbarrow for a fun vintage garden look.

Who says a wreath has to go just on an outside door?

You can use them so many fun ways for decor.
