Hello dear Friends, I'm so glad you came by today because I'm sharing a few ideas about using and displaying vintage linens in our decor. If you love "vintage", then you probably have at least a few pieces of old linens in your cupboard or cabinets. Old tablecloths, napkins, lace and embroidered pillow cases, quilts and tea towels are easy to find at flea markets and estate sales. Often after many years they are still in good shape, but may not be practical for daily use. So many are still pretty and can be used for a fun vintage vignette or display.
Welcome to the bi-monthly gathering, Lifestyle of Love hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. We love getting together with a designated vintage topic to share how we use those pieces in our homes and decor. Thankyou Cindy for this fun Hop, and if you're coming from Angie's blog, Postcards from the Ridge, I'm so glad you're following the Hop and came by to visit.
Today I'm out in the Garden Room on the farm table
with a sweet Spring and Easter display using old florist baskets
anchored in a very old cardboard suitcase.
I have several vintage quilts that I love to use on my sitting room wicker pieces, and a few tablecloths that only come out during the holidays, but my favorite pieces are small and versatile tea towels. Many of them were lovingly embroidered and embellished with crochet and cross stitch and were used only for guests or holiday display.
I wanted to share how easy it is to add a fun little tea towel into almost any vignette. And since Spring is here and Easter is next weekend, I thought a vignette with an old florist basket would be the perfect spot for a kitchen or table centerpiece display. I have this on the table, but it would work on your kitchen counter or island for a quick and easy nod to Easter. I have a few old "paper church fans" and thought this one was particularly appropriate for Easter.
I have this little grouping on my farm table in the Garden Room. If you read my post from last week about vintage wicker florist/funeral baskets for Easter, you know I often use them for holiday and seasonal displays.
I like using a table runner or layering multiples on this farm table and also in my dining room to add a bit of color and texture. The base layer of fabric is actually an antique French drapery panel, topped with a stenciled burlap "grain sack". I wanted a neutral after Christmas, but since it's late Spring now's the time to brighten up the table with a lighter table runner.
One of my moss bunnies is here in the basket with a spring-green organza ribbon.
A linen bird towel and an old "cottage" tea towel are tucked in here.
A small bouquet of faux tulips and spring flowers
is in one of my ironstone pitchers.
The old gold edged towel below has white doves embroidered in French knots.
Sweet little cross stitch bunnies framed piece.
Here's another little springtime display in a vintage tote
with a couple of vintage tea towels tucked in.
I hope that you'll use your lovely vintage linens at least for display
if not for everyday use. They're just too pretty to keep hidden
in a drawer or cabinet. Have fun with them!
Thanks so much for coming by and I hope you'll continue
on with the fun by clicking on the Linky images below.
Head on over to visit Laura and her beautiful vintage linens at Decor to Adore.
Happy Saturday Debra. Love your sweet vintage linens. So cute. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteThese tea towels are amazing, Debra! I don't think I've ever seen so many beautiful examples in one place! I would love to learn how to stitch like that - what a talent. Love all the extra special ways you've displayed them for the season. They're so pretty! Hugs, CoCo
ReplyDeleteHi Debra,
ReplyDeleteI look forward to seeing your new posts and love what you have done here with the vintage linens. It made me realize I have a nice collection of pieces very appropriate for this time of year and this was a lovely way to enjoy them (the drawer, not so much!). Your creativity is fresh and inspiring. Thank you.
I am in love with your tea towels! Okay and the paper church fans! I've not seen one yet with an Easter basket. All of yours are so beautiful and I enjoy seeing how you use them. Gave me some great ideas. I am one of those that keeps them hidden in a drawer or in a basket but I'm going to find ways to keep some of them out for display. Thank you for joining us and sharing your treasures. Pinned
