Hello Everyone, welcome to the first
Vintage Cottage Weekend!
Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home and I thought it would be fun to start a weekend tandem post where we celebrate our love for all things Vintage Cottage. We both have our roots in buying and selling vintage and antique goods in vintage shops and markets, AND we both love English Cottage and French Cottage decor. We want to share some of our ideas, inspiration, and thoughts on all things Vintage Cottage Style. Today I thought I'd kick off our new weekend get-together with some inspiration from a cottage staple.
You all know I LOVE any kind of vintage cupboards...
So I thought it would be fun to do a little celebrating the Irish way
and share some decor inspiration with an iconic kitchen staple
...the Irish Cupboard.

The photos weren't available on line so I took a couple of snaps
to share this wonderful example of a British Cupboard.
This is another example of a gorgeous cupboard from
Carolyn Westbrook's Kitchen in her book Carolyn Westbrook Home.
I've been a fan of these amazing cupboards forever;
the perfect display piece for an Irish/English/Welsh/Scottish cottage
...but you DO need a good size space for this size of cupboard.

The usual distinguishing mark is that they are a "Step-back" Cupboard.
meaning the top Hutch is not as deep as the bottom Dresser.
This gives more room for larger serving pieces to be set out.

Debra, this is a wonderful idea! You've collected a nice assortment of inspiration photos here. This will be a great resource! One of the first things we purchased for the home we bought in 1995 and continue to live in, is an Irish pine glass front cupboard. It's a step back with a dresser below and the shelves above have glass front doors. I keep French faience pieces and a few other special pieces on the shelves. Below in the dresser below is where I store my MacKenzie-Childs dishes that we use for meals. It is huge and takes up one wall of our kitchen sitting area. With limited cabinet space in our 1930s kitchen, it is a much needed asset! Kudos to you and Amber for this fun new series.

DeleteSo many fun cupboards! A few were a little too cluttered for me (and I am a big fan of clutter, so that was kind of a shock!) but most I really loved! It's also a reminder that it's time to spring up mine!

DeleteI literally laughed out loud when I read Amber's comment! It's true. I love a good cupboard even though I've never purchased one because we lack the room. And those sweet little pitchers with the clovers on them... I would love to pass one of those on to my daughter for her March 17th birthday. Maybe one day. Loving both of your posts and really looking forward to seeing all the vintage goodness. Big hugs.
ReplyDeleteHey Cindy, so glad you came by. Tell your daughter "Happy Birthday" I imagine she's had fun being an "Irish" baby. When we were growing up you had to wear some green on SPD or you could be pinched. Not fun if you forgot!!
