Hi Friends, I'm so glad you're here today because I'm joining in with a great bunch of bloggers for a really fun get together. We're sharing Holiday inspirational ideas for some easy decorating for Christmas. I think most of us have some kind of tray, shallow basket, or antique pan that can easily be dressed up with greenery, candles, dishes etc. for a unique and even functional addition to our Christmas decor. Let's grab some inspiration for an easy movable decor vignette.
Our sweet friend Katherine from Katherine's Corner is hosting this fun Tray Tour, and if you're coming from Katherine's blog, Hello, and I'm so glad you're here. We hope you'll click through to the rest of the group and see how we've all dressed up our "trays" for Christmas.
I have a lot of what could be called "trays" that I use throughout the year, mostly for decor. As I mentioned earlier, a tray doesn't have to be limited to just a metal or wooden serving piece. If we think outside of the box, it could be any number of fun and interesting flat surfaces that we can use to serve food, decorate a table, or actually functionally carry items from one place to another.
The first thing I thought about was one of my vintage silver trays. I love to use them especially during the Christmas Holiday because they are a bit more formal and lend themselves to the idea of serving a lovely "tea" with elegant little "biscuits" and Christmas goodies. I had plans to make some delicious little cookies, and when that didn't happen I even sent my husband out to find pretty decorated tea cakes or sugar cookies. No luck. So let's just imagine some sparkly confections that make our mouths water!
OK, back to reality and my waistline..
I thought I'd put together a few of my favorite things... like a silver tea/coffee pot, a few pieces of old red transferware, and a mini faux Christmas tree in a sugar bowl. A favorite Christmas Church tea light and the rest are gathered on this heavy old tray from probably the 40's. A quick and easy way to give a touch of Christmas is with a ribbon tied around the teapot handle... and for me that's a red Tartan Plaid ribbon. Instant Christmas!!
I have the tray sitting out in the Garden Room on an antique table in the sitting area. The Garden Room is a large sunroom sitting across the back of our house facing southeast. It has windows on 3 sides and most of my white chippy vintage furniture pieces are out here filled with Holiday fun.
Faux Paperwhites in an antique cubby drawer.
Paper Mache Scandinavian white reindeer.
I love using silver sugar and creamers as elegant little votive candle cups. They are easy to find at almost any flea or vintage market. One year I even used silver pieces to decorate a Christmas tree.
I also collect white churches and houses that I love to use at Christmas. This one is made to hold a tea light for some extra special evening ambiance.
Antique and vintage Christmas cards are a fun and nostalgic way to add some graphic interest to any Holiday vignette. Group them together on a mirror, or add them to a vignette or display. I love reading the personal messages from a hundred or so years ago.
Merry Christmas, Everyone!!

Your vintage tray is lovely Debra! Your little tree in the sugar bowl is such a perfect addition and I can definitely picture a pretty plate of Christmas cakes on that tray. I am sure it is stunning in your Garden Room which is always beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing! Merry Christmas Debra!
ReplyDeleteYour vintage tray is gorgeous. Love all the pretty you found to go on it. Enjoy these next few weeks before the big day. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteYour tray is so elegant and it sets a beautiful scene for Christmas tea. I love that you put it in the garden room with all of the other bits of awesome you have. Thank you for participating in the tour my friend xo
ReplyDeleteI love the classic simplicity of your tray and surrounding vignette! The tray is beautiful, set off by the silver tea things. The red plaid ribbon and lovely little church add pretty Christmas touches. I like how you arranged the paperwhites -- I'll need to dig mine out! I'm sure sitting next to your tray will be a treat throughout the holiday season. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteI adore your red transferware and have been wanting some for ages and cannot find a single piece. I take that back, I found one plate for $40 and just couldn't justify that one. I guess you're going to have to whip up a gingerbread house for your tray. LOL. But honestly, the entire tray is already gorgeous! The little church and how you put the tree inside the sugar bowl - Christmas perfection!
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas tray looks beautiful, Debra.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Debra! Isn't it amazing how one little ribbon can make anything so special and festive! Your red transferware is lovely, and perfect on your silver tray. I Love your little snowy church and the tree in the china dish. Your whole vignette is just lovely~

A traditional look always grabs my attention at Christmas - especially when it's done so beautifully as in your tray. All the gleaming silver has made me want to polish my tarnished bits and pieces. The red transferware and little snow covered church complete the vignette. Where do you find the little churches? They really are cute :)
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you.

All your vignettes are so lovely. I such a sucker for red transferware and also for silver (although I'm not terribly good on keeping all of mine perfectly polished!) It's lovely, Debra.
ReplyDeleteI have that same collection of tea cups - I love seeing this festive way to display them!

ReplyDeleteDebra, Your vintage silver tray is so beautiful! What an elegant choice for displaying lovely trinkets at Christmastime! I treasure any pieces of silver, be they vintage or new additions.
