October Garden Room and the Baker's Rack

With October slipping through our fingers, November will be here in a quick minute. Then come preparations for Thanksgiving and before we know it Christmas is on our doorstep...literally. I love late Fall and Thanksgiving, so I'm not one to skip it and move directly to Christmas. I brought out my tubs for Thanksgiving goodies and started to clear off the Baker's Rack and wicker pieces when I realized that whoops... I hadn't actually shared the Garden Room since August.  

You all know that this is my favorite time of year so I wanted to share the Garden Room, if only for my own personal blog diary. I like to photo spaces sometimes if it's only so I'll know what I do season to season and year to year. I like to look back for ideas and inspiration each season. Most of us don't run out and buy all new seasonal decorations each year. I might get a few new things, but I'm like most people, I have some fun vintage pieces that I move around and create new and different vignettes. Covid and my health have made it even more difficult to find new ideas and vintage pieces.

I finally got around to trying the quintessential Fall DIY Napkin Decoupaged Pumpkin with Modge Podge earlier this season and honestly it was harder and messier than than I had planned on. I chalked it up to a "trial run" and felt like I at least gave it a try and now I know what not to do. I did two of them and by the end of the afternoon I vowed to make a plan for next year, knowing a few do's and don'ts of these little buggers.

So... back to the late Fall Garden Room...

Quilts and pillows get changed up, seasonal color comes in, 

and I grab vintage elements that work with seasonal themes.

The small plaid "backside" of a bold pattern vintage quilt has become a favorite "neutral" backdrop for many of the seasons. It has a small pattern, but doesn't overwhelm the space or compete with the pillows. Some of my fave pillows are these brown floral ones. I think it's Ballad Bouquet Sepia Brown. I use them throughout Fall and often again in January.

The Holiday Cupboard is always the focal point out here,

especially when the doors are open and all the transferware

and vintage goods call you over to take a peek.

This Fall I went for a Romantic look using old candleholders,

postcards and figural vases.

Since I started using the old pie safe as the "Holiday Cupboard",

The Baker's Rack doesn't get the attention it once did.

Now I use bigger pieces to dress it up for the holidays.

Some vintage pieces, like trays and tins are too big for the HC,

so they fit better here on these open shelves.

The orange enamel tea pot, plaid thermos, and large antique biscuit tin 

are a few of my favorite fall vintage pieces that I use each year.

This old quilt in the "Flying Geese" pattern is another fall staple.

And I've mentioned so many times how indigo ticking goes with everything.

Such a fun neutral!!!

It's raining cats and dogs right now, and looks like dusk. At nine o'clock in the morning I had to turn lights on around the house. We bought a standing firepit this week and hopefully can get it placed this weekend. I've wanted one for years, and the graveled landscaping area out back will be the perfect spot, as it's already fireproofed. When I was a kid and every year in the fall, my Dad and brother would build a big bonfire for family parties and cookouts. I've always held that fond memory. Even though they both are in heaven, maybe a small bit of that fun autumn gathering can still be enjoyed. Plus I love smores and they just aren't the same unless eaten round a campfire!
