October Entry with the Snow Owls

Last week I shared a sweet little DIY on my Glitter Snow Owls that I made about 9 years ago, and use each year this last bit in October and early November. Fall is the perfect time for "owling" and I've been intrigued with them and vintage illustrations for years. I remember as a child living in the country, the unmistakable "hoots" before I fell asleep at night. And yes, they're a tad bit spooky so that fits in with this time of year.

These little guys usually hang out on the mantel during their stay,
but this year I thought I'd try them in the Entry, since the hearth room
is a vast dim wasteland for photos.

It's always so light and bright in the Entry that no matter
the weather or cloud cover it's easy to get nice pics.

The pumpkin chalkboard print was from Dear Lillie Shop,
several years ago, but it looks to be out of print at this time.

I'm always on the lookout for vintage frames at flea markets,
which make framing projects less expensive.

I painted packaged Fall leaves for this small wreath on the mirror.
You can find that post here.

This year I wanted to use a pumpkin on an urn, but ended up
with this pottery vase with faux and real dried hydrangeas.
I fell for this adorable orange and black polka-dot wired ribbon.

Just in case you wondered why this little guy
has been roosting in the vintage flowerpot...

He was the victim of a joke gone wrong.
Trying to be funny, my husband threw a dishtowel at a cobweb
on the mantel many years ago.
And of course someone fell off and lost his perch and feet.
I remember it in slow motion...
knowing what was about to happen.
Believe me, my husband has not been allowed to forget it!!

Thankfully, these guys are still intact.

More Owl fun...

  1. Morning, Debra! Oh, your Fall entry table is so pretty! First of all I love love your gorgeous table with all of the carvings on it! Everything else looks so nice! The story about your hubby knocking your little owl down is funny. Those hubbys!! :) I know I've said it before, but everything you touch looks so beautiful. Hope you're having a nice week.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  4. I hear you on the fascination with owls although I never heard one in my life and I've only seen one at a wild animal party! It's the faces that intrigue me. Anyway-I love your collection and it is fitting for this time of year. Dear Lillie sounds so familiar--is that blog still going? I'm so out of it these days.

You wrote you had an invasive back surgery in June. If you'd like to share send me an email. Seems you and I always connect on a medical level, sad but ironic!

Happy fall pretty, lady, and thanks for the visit!

    Jane ❤️

  5. Love, love, love the way you put things together, Debra! I swear it always looks amazing and effortless all at the same time. If you ever write a book on vignettes, I'll be the first one standing in line. Sending you hugs, CoCo

  6. Your husband sounds a bit like my husband Debra, but good save on the owl. It looks like it is nesting.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful glitter owls at Create, Bake, Grow & Gather this week. I'm delighted to be featuring your entry at the party this week and pinning too.
    Hugs,
    Kerryanne

  7. Debra, I know you already know, but yes! I was happy to feature your sweet owls at this past week's Share Your Style #323 for you. <3 They are so pretty together!!! I know that slow motion feeling... It happened this summer when a chair leg broke off of a chair here in our dining room and my sister-in-law fell backwards banging her back on the hutch. I lost a ceramic milk jug and a couple of small white ceramic birds.

Anyway, I love your style!! It's very pretty, very ethereal... <3
Many hugs and thank you, I am feeling better and so is Yoda,
    Barb :)
