French Country Corner in the Dining Room

Hello Friends, well, it's the end of October, and "Fall" has finally "fallen" 

here in SW Missouri.  We didn't have what I call a normal fall transition 

in the weather. There really haven't been but a few days that were 

bright and sunny and in the 60's. We went from upper 80's to cold and rainy

 and 50's in just a matter of a week. I guess many of you are dealing 

with the same strange weather systems. 

The trees still haven't hit their peak color, and the wind has been crazy.

A lot of the leaves are gone... and on the ground instead. 

Our yard is covered in lovely gold Hickory leaves,

and we're expecting freezes several nights next week. 

I wish we had a few more weeks to enjoy it 

before it all turns too cold and freezing rain is a mainstay.

You know me, I love late Fall and Thanksgiving, so I never like to skip over it.

I DO want to get a head start on Christmas decor though, 

because there's just so little time to enjoy it if I wait till December. 

One of my favorite places to start decorating for Thanksgiving (or any holiday) is in the Dining Room. Today I'm sharing my special little corner with the family washstand that gives a French Country feel. The old antique mirror and my little Frenchy girl bust are at home here. This little corner isn't easily seen unless you're in the kitchen and walk through the doorway. But I see it... and love to decorate it.

This year I thought I'd try out the painted cornucopia filled with faux bittersweet and twigs on the English ironstone platter that's usually here. A little satin fabric pumpkin is nestled inside the foliage. My sheep canvas print is here this season too. with a sprig of fall leaves and a pear.

I found my little French girl about 12 years ago in a dusty old antique shop that was notorious for exorbitant prices, owned by a cranky old man. Her base was broken so she couldn't "stand up" properly, and he saw no value in her, but I knew I could use her somehow. So she sits in an old chalkware urn that suits her and me, just fine.

The twiggy wreath was found at a boutique a few years ago.

I love the bow combination, and wild woodsy look. 

I'll be sharing some Thanksgiving decor

but also working on Christmas vignettes at the same time.

I like to keep a photo log of my seasonal decor

 throughout the years.
