Flea Market Finds in the Dining Room

I've not been out to the fleas or antique malls for quite a while. Between the back problems and Covid and my autoimmune issues, I've had to put a lot of shopping on hold. I've really missed having the chance to get out and enjoy the fun of vintage and antique shopping. Let's just say it's always been a highlight of my week/month/year to get out and browse around. The added perk is that I always came home with not only fun finds, but also filled up with new creative ideas.

My husband has an antique mall case where he's selling some of his collections, so he gets out a couple of times a month to check in and restock. He's started doing some flea market shopping for me "by proxy". He browses the mall and looks for items he thinks I might like. He's actually pretty good at sending photos to me and asking what I think. A few have been utter fails, but generally if he thinks I might like it, he snaps a pic. Most of the time, I'll have to say, "yes it's great, but the price is way too high". Or sometimes, it's more like, "sorry Honey, nope." 

Last week he found this great transferware platter with of all things...CHICKENS!! This is just an inexpensive piece from Japan, but honestly there are hundreds of Turkey platters out there, but I've never seen one with chickens!! I found one like this on Ebay for 3 times what he paid, but that's the only time I've even seen one. 

I thought I'd try it out here on the old wire plant stand in the Dining Room. The plant stand isn't easy to decorate because of the wire on top which doesn't lend itself to holding things securely or evenly. But Hey, it works for this platter as it gives it a little "dip" to rest in.

I took some pics first without the little floral arrangement, but realized that the vignette needed to be bumped up a notch. The little tussy mussy in the cottage creamer helped add some color and texture for mid and late summer.

I've been rummaging through tubs of faux sunflowers and summer florals so that I can update my arrangements for mid-to-late summer. Often I just need to add some sunflowers or black-eyed susans to an existing faux flower arrangement to give a refresh.

I found this scalloped tureen a few years ago at a yard sale for a dollar, and this wonderful very heavy white ironstone tureen base at a flea awhile back. I start using pears in mid-summer and as fall gets closer, then Christmas, and winter you'll find pears a staple in my decor.

This little teapot, sugar and creamer set is also from Japan. Not expensive, but I DO love my little English country cottageware.
