St. Patrick's Day isn't a holiday that I go all out decorating for, but having said that I DO like to give a nod to my Irish, Scottish, and British ancestors. Since I've had the Holiday Cupboard back at this house, I've found that I can go a bit crazy with the holidays and seasons. Of course "dishes" and a few odds and ends are always the base for my decorating obsessions.
I adore transferware.
I've never met a color I didn't like,
so in early spring I like to bring out the green
and give it a spotlight here in the cupboard.
The green transferware pieces along with my Ivy dishes are just
a perfect backdrop for St. Patrick's Day and all things "GREEN".
A trio of white ironstone tureens and platters are usually the main focus.
Then I add in the dinner plates along the back and stack the cups, saucers and bread plates.
After the basics are placed, then it's "anything goes" as far as the small decorative items.
Vintage postcards and prints add some graphics.
Old cottage-ware pitchers, teapots and accessories give some English Country charm.
Then don't forget the sheep and birdies...
...and a few vintage garden bits like flower pots and flower frogs.
I can't resist a vintage sheep or landscape print.
All the better if they are smallish that can be tucked in with an easel
or leaned up against a stack of dishes.
Below is an old jewelry box that opens like a book.
The green sugar shaker and a salt shaker were my paternal grandmother's,
so when I see a set or even an orphan shaker I usually grab it.
I don't have full sets of dishes.
I just find what I can to add to my collections.
Gravy boats seem to be easier to find
since they weren't used every day.
Easter is early this year and will be here soon,
so I'm already planning what fun I can create in here, next.
If you missed it,
with a little Irish thrown in.
Spring is sneaking up on me.
I went outside today to check on some of the trees and shrubs
and while I was in the sun on the southside of the house,
I actually broke out in a sweat!!
Time to take off the long underwear...

HI Debra, love that hutch filled with all those fun nods to your roots! Happy Day, laura
ReplyDeleteI adore this! This motivates me to restyle my wet bar shelves that I use as a coffee bar! I have a lot of ironstone on it but it needs some color and spring joy.
ReplyDeleteI love your wee bit of Irish. Very cute. Have a great rest of the week. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteJust the perfect mix of spring, Irish roots, and your transfer ware. The entire cabinet is so perfect for March! I've known that we've shared a love for lambs and pastoral art and I never get tired of seeing that in your home. The postcards are such a sweet addition, also. Whimsy all around.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for spring weather soon!🌷
Jane
Dropping into your blog. Your cupboard looks so classy with the different ornaments. A white cupboard with touches of green inside and outside, so well co-ordinated.
ReplyDeleteI love your cupboard all year long but this is just so perfect for spring! I especially love the sheep prints you have tucked inside. The oval one on the white easel reminds me of one that was on my Grandmother's mantel for years. You have such wonderful treasures in your cupboard! I always look forward to seeing what you do next!
ReplyDeleteAdorable. The green transferware is gorgeous. Your cottageware is darling too.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to follow along with all the many seasonal vignettes you create in this cupboard! All the green works well with the white ironstone. I have a similar vintage jewelry box with a gorgeous floral painting on the lid -- never thought of using as a painting! Love it:) Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm. xo Kathleen
ReplyDeleteI adore everything about this display, Debra!! Your green transfer collection is just stunning. I love how you mixed in bits of Spring...those sheep prints are adorable! So pretty!
