I want to be transitioning to "all things Spring", but I'm finding it difficult when the temp outside is 5 degrees and there's 8 inches of snow. It's too cold to go into the garage and search thru the spring flower tubs, so I'm making do and sharing what I'm living with this last couple of weeks in February.
I'm sure that later this month when the weather hits 50 I'll be more inclined to put some spring bits together. I love to play with moss and early spring faux flowers with a vignette, but I'm just not quite there this week.
I do have my vintage sheep and shepherd European print on canvas out
that really speaks to me of late winter/early spring.
The earthy colors lend itself to thoughts of chilly weather
but with the beginnings of green coming forth.
The wicker wrapped antique demijohns, burlap evergreen topiaries,
mercury glass votives, and antlers are still here as a base from Christmas.
I'd had this print in my stash for years but it was an odd size and I wanted to mod podge it onto a canvas. I was after a realistic look with the texture of brush strokes, but didn't have a canvas that fit. So I used what I had on hand and painted around the edges of the canvas to make it work. There's a glare on it now from the lighting, but in normal lighting you can't tell that it's been tweaked. You can read that post DIY HERE.
The Hearth Room seems a little bare as usual, after Christmas.
(that's a wooden cheese crate there in the corner)
I have my toile and floral pillows out with the usual
ticking stripe down filled bed pillows.
My next version of the mantel will
replace the evergreen topiaries with boxwood ones.
The antlers and demijohns may go back
to their original places on the downstairs mantel.
Antlers don't look very spring-y to me.
Buh-bye till next Fall!
Here was last year's early spring mantel
I'll be sharing the rest of the Hearth Room this weekend.

ReplyDeleteHave a good day.
Your mantel is so pretty. We are having the same kind of weather. It has been in negative numbers and we have had 36 inches of snow since the beginning of February. It is suppose to start to warm up towards the weekend. I hope so. I am so over this winter. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at 'not quite there yet'. I think we may have Easter egg hunts in snowbanks, LOL. We've had the highest amount of snow for February in over a hundred years. I always enjoy your home no matter what the weather! Sandi
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Debra. And actually, deer shed their antlers during this time (Jan-Mar), depending on your region. But I feel your vibe - Spring, come soon! Well, this has been one of the longest weeks ever. We started Monday with an ice storm, today we have snow, supposed to get more snow/ice tonight. Tomorrow I'm scheduled for my 2nd COVID shot. I will crawl if I have to!
ReplyDeleteWe are feeling the same pre=spring vibes! During the daylight when we have had the heat from the generator on, I started making changes to the dining room that will carry over from now through early spring. I used similar elements such as demi-john and sheds/antlers and some birds and bird nests, things I really use all year round but take on a different look based on the textiles or other accents. Of all times to get on a cleaning, purging and re-decorating whim! I actually cleaned out my whole corner china cabinet in the dining room that has been crammed to overflowing with the ironstone. Now that I have the china cabinet built-in in the kitchen that is full of ironstone to display it, it freed up the dining room cabinet for something new. It has been the same for about 4 years so definitely time for a change.
ReplyDeleteGoing to check out a few more posts then it's back to snuggling under blankets in the dark!
I am looking toward springs as well. I live near Kris of Junk Chic Cottage so I'm in the middle of a snowy month (its snowing now, actually -- not that we need it!) Your painting is gorgeous as is the mirror. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm, Pinned! xo Kathleen
ReplyDeleteYour mantel is stunning, so well put together it all looks amazing.
