Not Quite Spring in the Hearth Room

Most times, I go from Valentine's Day directly into Early Spring decorating. But this year we've all had a strong blast of winter that just sidelined me (you guys too) With temps below 0 for about a week in a row and several good rounds of snow I just wasn't up to getting out the spring-y stuff. As I said, I'm sure next week when it hits 50 I'll be more in the mood, but for now it's still "February" and the tail end of winter.

I guess this would be called late winter neutral decor.
I have a little color in lighter neutrals but not a lot.
A few prints and florals like the Toile and then the floral pillows
and a small neutral plaid quilt on the ottoman.

The mantel still has a bit of a late winter vibe
with the evergreen topiaries, antlers, and demijohns.
This will get an "Early Spring" makeover very soon.

I reverted back to my "after Christmas" neutral decor.

The smallish bare Christmas tree with white lights
was in the corner and I really enjoyed having it there.
I kept it up till late January; far longer than any other tree in the past.
The small twinkle lights were a cozy comfort each evening.

The antique wicker rolling market basket is back to just faux hydrangeas.
I had evergreen stems for Christmas and before that, long fall leaf stems.
Hydrangeas go with everything!

The hearth room is our cozy spot to nap, read, and watch some TV.
I keep these quilted matelassé coverlets on top
of the slipcovered sofa and chair to reduce wear and tear.
(aka cat hair)

Pears are my "go-to" faux fruit filler for bowls.
They work most of the year and their golden/green colors
work so well to give a small punch of color with neutrals.

I have several of these vintage jam jars with galvanized lids.
Perfect for a small beeswax square candle that matches the pears.

I have to open the front door to get light for pics in here.
I had a sunny day so I took advantage of it,
but it was maybe 9 degrees outside so I had to work fast.
I had to quietly do it when hubby was in his office
so I didn't get the "shut the front door" look.

My vintage "Burberry" plaid umbrella is still usable,
but now it's just for decor.

My family sideboard is along the back wall of the hearth room.
The little shelf on top of the mirror is holding
a few pieces of vintage copper this month.

I found these "nesting" copper trays a few years ago at our wine center lunch cafe.
I was hoping to use them for our family Christmas Eve Open House.
(unfortunately that hasn't happened yet... but cute to display)

Here's the previous post on the
in case you missed it.

I hope things are warming up wherever you might be.
To all of you in Texas we are praying for you.
Hoping your power and water is back soon,
and that your lives will get back to normal.

Hope to see you Monday evening for

  1. I love your demijohns, pretty copper--and, of course, the nice sheep painting on the mantle. I hope it warms up for you soon. I'm in California, and I won't tell you how "cold" I was out in the high winds today! :-)

    1. Hi Marilyn, I'm sure those high winds are brutal, especially if it's at all chilly. We don't get a lot of high wind here, but it can make a cold day miserable. have a great rest of the weekend!

  2. Very pretty as always Debra. We are getting to warm up this week too. Wooo Hooo can't wait. Worry about where all the piles of 35 inch snow is going to go. Hope we thaw out slowly! Have a great weekend. xoxo

    1. oh wow, Kris. 35 inches of snow! I can't imagine. we haven't had much snow for the last several years, but this year's cold weather has made up for it. After this, I think I'm ready for Spring. I love winter, but not crazy cold like it's been. have a great Sunday, Kris! xoxo
