Woodsy Christmas Mantel in the Hearth Room

I love a cozy, vintage, "woodsy" look in decor, and Christmas seems as good a time as any to make that happen. I'm a person who loves to snuggle up by the fire with a hot cup of something and relax. Lots of blankets and pillows, cushy furniture; basically a place where you feel comfortable putting your feet up and watching a movie or reading a book... not to mention finding a cat crawl up in your lap to enjoy it all with you.

Years ago we often thought about a log cabin in the woods near a lake or a river as a get-away, but it never seemed to materialize for us. Now just taking care of our current place and hoping to get back out in our RV which has been cooped up in a heated storage unit, would be a joy.

Putting together a woodsy mantel in our Hearth Room is as close as I can get right at the moment. I love using natural elements throughout the seasons and for decor, so I did the next best thing and used some faux greenery, deer shed antlers, and evergreen topiaries to create a mini Christmas "getaway" to the woods.

My two twiggy reindeer and the quail from Thanksgiving mingle in the greens.

I love having this smaller tree with lights hidden here in the corner,
and I'm not sure I'll be ready to take it down after Christmas.
It looks so homey and cozy it may just stay up for a bit.
To give it some height it's sitting on a wooden cheese crate
that I found here in town at one of our winery lunch spots.

Bittersweet was covering the basket this last Fall,
so now Winterberry has taken it's place.
I was outside this afternoon foraging for greens
and noticed most of the Holly Berries
have been devoured by the birds.
That was a real disappointment when putting
together a greenery arrangement.
I know we have tons of Cardinals around here,
so they are the likely culprits.

A vintage red enamelware metal bowl is filled with foraged pine cones.

My Tartan plaids don't have to match,
I just like them with reds and greens for Christmas.

I'm pretty sure I found this Robins at Christmas pillow cover
at Pottery Barn several years ago.

I purchased the red/white "churn dash" vintage quilt about 13 years ago when I had a booth space at a vintage market. I've really missed the Holiday Christmas Open Houses these last couple of years. Last year I didn't make it, and of course this year has been really not a good time for me to be out anywhere.

Hope you'll come by Monday evening and join us...

  4. First of all, I think I speak for everyone when I say we all want a hearth room! It's so cozy and inviting. And your woodsy mantel is perfect. Everything you've added is lovely. The plaids all around the room have me realizing I'd never get anything done being plopped down in that comfy chair while quietly reading a book. That's the life! Oh, love those topiaries too! So cute. Happy Sunday!

  10. It is so cozy and perfect not only for Christmas, but winter too! I love the mix of tartans and that Pottery Barn pillow is perfect on your sofa. I would definitely keep the little woodsy tree in the corner for winter.
