Little Houses on the Sideboard and Cookbook Cupboard

So, now it's Christmas week and I still have a few spots around the house to share. I've decided I'm going to have to start a few Christmas posts before Thanksgiving, because the Christmas season is just not long enough! I'll just blame it on more fun spots to decorate.

My sideboard and cookbook cupboard are both in the Hearth Room along a long interior wall that connects to the kitchen. It's difficult to place furniture when you have to have a traffic area so this became the only spot to use them. The Hearth Room is a naturally dark room because there aren't any direct windows, just light from the Garden Room and Kitchen. Having most of the furniture white has helped give this area a lighter feel.

I painted this family sideboard two years ago before we moved here, and I've really enjoyed being able to actually use it. I keep dining room and kitchen linens in here and of course it's fun to have another spot to decorate for the seasons. The ledge/shelf above the mirror is just the right size for small items and this Christmas I'm displaying the rest of my white ceramic houses.

The white dough bowl I bought earlier in the season is perfect for my vintage ornaments surrounding one of my old French ironstone tureens. You can see from the photo below how these two pieces of furniture set in relation to the Hearth Room.

I bought this cabinet years ago when I had several vintage market booths and used it to display merchandise. Since I gave that up and brought it home, it's displayed quilts and pottery, but now it's for fun vintage kitchen items and cookbooks.

I always have to add a disclaimer to any and all "bottom shelves".
It seems I have a problem with them being a catch-all for
miscellaneous clutter.

I put together this little vintage plaid lunch box
with Christmas kitsch a few years ago.

My hubby found the little Otagiri Christmas Houses Salt and Pepper not long ago when he was at an antique mall. He knows I love little houses and salt and peppers; what a sweet surprise. It's hard to tell but that's a little fox dressed up in equestrian garb. The Walker Shortbread tin was a gift from my daughter after a trip to the UK.

On top, oh yay, another flat surface to display goodies!

The red enamelware French Cafetiere Coffee Pot is perfect for Christmas.

I bought the little metal house last year from Target.
It was just galvanized tin, but I decided it needed to be white.
As you can see I love little houses and now keep my
Cottage Cookie Jars and tea sets here in the Cookbook Cupboard.
Whatever the season they're right at home.

My large scrolly chalkboard from Pier 1 several years ago
makes for a perfect background up here on top.
The black makes everything displayed just pop.

I have one more post of Christmas in the Garden Room
including my Baker's Rack and the French Goat Cart.
Then I'll be sharing a Christmas Home Tour on Christmas Day.

Are you all ready for Christmas?
Since we won't be with family this year
I've been trying to get presents and goodies together for delivery.
It will be different this year,
but I'm praying and believing for a better next year.

Hope you'll join us on Monday evening!

  4. I enjoyed your Christmas decor. When I was a child I had a red plad lunchbox just like the one you have! But it wasn't vintage when I had it.lol How I wish I still had it!
