French Country Christmas in the Dining Room

Hello, dear friends. 
I hope you're all well and keeping your Holiday spirits high.

In the Fall I knew I wanted to do something different here in the Dining Room. I didn't really realize how I'd been using the same tabletop decor year after year until I did the "Lookback" post on the dining room last week. So this year after decorating the table with something new for Fall, I decided to keep the basket, tapestry and demi-johns to see what I could come up with for a new look for Christmas. I ended up with a bit of a French Country feel to the tabletop.

I love using Paperwhites for Christmas and they are an easy arrangement to put together. This year I bought a few more faux stems to add to my existing bunch in one of my iron urns. I love the real thing, but they are a little stinky, and come to an end way too soon.  I "transplanted" the faux stems in my Pottery Barn urn and tied them up with a burlap/gold shimmer ribbon.

I put together this little Christmas tussy mussy bouquet lots of years ago and this year it's under the cloche in a small version of the larger iron urns. The other cloche covers my Christmas tree bird's nest on the milk glass cake pedestal.

So as I mentioned, my old split oak laundry basket stayed on the dining room table with the vintage Belgian tapestry inside as a liner. I started out with a grouping of 4 smaller evergreen trees nestled inside, then added velvet poinsettias in neutrals with a dusting of glitter around the rim.  

The large alter candlesticks and demijohns stayed

and I added two silver German glass glitter reindeer.

I haven't used these poinsettias in years, 

but this year their varied pinks to brown to rust colors

just matched the basics on the table.

My antique wire plant stand holds a white church luminary,

an ironstone tureen of faux pears, and one of my topiaries.

The washstand in the corner has my little lamb tureen 

surrounded by a mossy grapevine wreath with winter fruits.

A few little snippets of Tartan plaid can still be seen. 

Touches here on the washstand and on the buffet.

And in the opposite corner, another old mirror with a small vintage wreath.

And I exchanged my small French print under the mirror 

with this 40's Madonna print in a metal frame.

It was fun to try something different this Christmas.

Not to worry, I still have a lot of Tartan Plaid around the rest of the house.
