Hello Friends, Welcome to
"A Season of Thanks" Blog Hop!
We all have our favorite Holidays, and for most people it's usually Christmas. But for me it's always been Thanksgiving. With Fall being my favorite season, it's just natural that the warmth and love of family and friends lends itself to the this wonderful Holiday celebration. Our favorite Hop Hostess, Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home has gathered a group of us to share our love of Thanksgiving with all of you. If you're coming from Marty's place at A Stroll Thru Life, Hello, I'm so glad you're here! If you haven't visited Amber and Marty, please be sure and catch them during the Hop.
I love that Thanksgiving is usually a little more casual than Christmas; not near as much pressure. (at least in our family) It's the perfect day to spend eating, relaxing and enjoying our families around the table or by a cozy fire with delicious aromas of traditional homemade foods and desserts. This is the day to eat and not worry about the calories! This year I thank God for all our blessings and protections throughout this crazy year. And I have to say I'm looking forward to heading in to 2021!
Some people don't do much decorating for Thanksgiving,
but Thanksgiving was always my "designated" family holiday to host,
so over the years I've ended up collecting more decor and especially vintage pieces.
I'm sharing my Thanksgiving Dining Room with you all today. If we were hosting a holiday celebration and dinner of course this would all have to be removed, so that we could all even see each other! I would basically remove the large basket and keep the two candlestick and demi-johns, then add the place-settings. But since we use the farm table in the Garden Room as a casual dining area, it would be the place where a smaller celebration dinner would be held. This year will most probably be just the two of us here for a quiet dinner.
As I mentioned in my last Dining Room post, I have a tendency to stick with something that "works" on this big table, but I wanted to try something new on the Dining Room table this Thanksgiving season. I usually have my large Italian metal basket here with seasonal faux flowers and pumpkins, but I thought I'd see how I could use this antique split bark basket as a centerpiece as something new.
I love the look of layered linens on the dining room table and especially
during the winter holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I have an old vintage Belgian tapestry that is worn and frayed,
that I've used as part of the table runner in the past,
but this year I thought I'd try it as a liner for the antique basket.
I'm using my concrete alter candles on the tabletop; one on each side.
One is slightly shorter than the other, but an old book helps to even them out.
Faux velvet and tapestry pumpkins join in with a couple of wicker demi-johns to make a substantial vintage holiday tabletop tableau. I mentioned on my last Dining Room post how this table and chairs need to have something large to be seen and noticed.
My husband was the one who started collecting demi-johns many years ago,
and I've been given permission to "borrow" them on occasion
as long as it's understood that he gets them back.
... eventually.
My antique wire plant stand has been in a dining room since I found it many years ago.
It's skinny and doesn't take up a lot of visual space which has worked with my dining rooms.
This furniture is large and bulky, so the petite plant stand gives a place to decorate
without having to dodge it sideways when trying to maneuver the walking space.
The buffet hasn't changed since earlier this Fall. I just moved a few tins and small pieces around a bit. I've not entertained in this Dining Room yet, since we've only been here a year and a half, but when we do I'm sure that this buffet might hold desserts or extra plates and dinnerware.
Here's a pic of my family washstand that is extra special,
here in the Dining Room.
We hope you'll continue on with the Hop by visiting
Christy at Our Southern Home, where she's sharing
her wonderful Dining Room dressed for Fall and Thanksgiving.
Thanks so much for coming by to visit,
and if you are new here I'd love you to come back again.
Have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving, everyone!

Debra your dining room looks SO pretty! I love how you designed the basket. I hope you enjoy a wonderful holiday season! xo
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. I love the basket! Your needlepoint pillow looks gorgeous. Happy Thanksgiving, Debra.
ReplyDeleteDebra, your dining room looks fabulous all decked out for Thanksgiving. I love the composition of how you placed your chairs to frame out the table. The scale of all the large items really fits with the space you have to decorate. The washstand is special. I love the sheep as you do. I usually skip decorating for Thanksgiving and go straight from early fall to Christmas, but not this year. I am taking a lesson from your long-standing page book and enjoying every bit of fall this year. Home is where the heart certainly is, a lesson learned even better this year.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, Debra! Your dining room is a stunner. I love the tapestries. That little tapestry pumpkin is darling. Happy Thanksgiving!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a glorious space Debra! I absolutely adore your needlepoint pumpkin. I'm truly thankful for all the inspiration you've given me.

ReplyDeleteDebra I am in love with your Thanksgiving centerpiece! The wicker demi johns have my heart as does the Belgian tapestry. All so gorgeous! Pinned!
ReplyDeleteI love your layered linens and that tapestry is gorgeous. I used to collect Thanksgiving decor and dishes but over the years I've given most of it away in search of a less cluttered life. I miss it all as I see your decor. It's always so cozy and detailed. Love it! I'm ready for the aromas too. I'd forgotten about that until you said it. Our house is usually filled with the smell of sautéed onions! LOL. Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI just love your beautiful table, especially the layered linens and old vintage Belgian tapestry. I always look forward to your inspiring style. It will be just the two of us for Thanksgiving, but already looking forward to next year when we can hopefully have a full house once again.

ReplyDeleteI'm drooling over your wire plant stand, Debra! I've always admired those, but never come across one; lucky you. The demijohns are amazing too, another thing we don't see around here much. Always love seeing your vintage collections and the beautiful way you style them:)
ReplyDeleteDebra your Thanksgiving table Tableau is gorgeous. That basket! The late harvest colors you chose are perfect along with the scattering of pumpkins and use of beautiful textiles. I love rustic elegance for Thanksgiving!I hope you have a blessed, safe, and healthy holiday!
ReplyDeleteDebra, you’ve created a lovely setting for Thanksgiving ~ even if you don’t actually get to use it this year. I think that’s the case with so many of us. But it’s still nice to have a pretty dining room for the holidays. I especially love your wire plant stand. I have two similar ones but they have always been outside. You’ve given me the idea to bring them inside for the winter. Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteDebra, You have added such lovely touches throughout your dining room. The Belgian tapestry made a lovely addition to the beautiful basket, filled with items that are a nod to the harvest season. The antique wire plant stand is such a unique piece, and such a treasure. Have a safe and happy holiday season!
