Cozy Early Fall Hearth Room

Last week I shared my Late Summer mantel here in the Hearth Room.
So now that the calendar says September,
I'm ready to bring out the cozy factor for Fall!

Of course that means keeping a Sunflower theme going,
along with a few light touches of Fall.

When planning this room before we moved, my first thought was that it had to be cozy. This is my go-to spot to sit down with a magazine or book for a quick time out or to put up my feet for a minute. A TV is inside the armoire, so when not in use it's easily closed and hidden. No matter the season, it's a  comfortable place to relax.

If you missed the mantel with my dried sunflower wreath,
from last week you can catch it here.

It's fun to change up the pillows and the quilt on the ottoman for each season.
Early September, I add in some warm colors and texture.
This month I'm using my Sunflower pillow
and the Kilim pillows that I bought last year.

I like to keep a quilt or blanket on the slipcovered ottoman because
it's my big-girl kitty's favorite hang out spot.
Plus I get to add a little more color in here with a quilt.

You can see just a small fraction of my Fall magazine stack
here on the old trunk.
It's easy to grab one and let my mind wander for a bit.

This pillow from Elliott-Heath Designs
is just one of a ton of wonderful pillow designs.

I'm using my two down bed pillows that my husband's grandmother
handmade for us for our wedding.
I love the original vintage ticking, plus they are super comfortable
and can be squished and squashed to your heart's desire.

My antique cast iron coal stove door has found a home here.
It was part of a small parlor or bedroom stove that was originally painted white.
Two very heavy concrete alter candlesticks are usually here as well.

My reproduction fishing creel is here on the old carpenter's bench
with a late summer small bouquet with black-eyed-susans.

The little leather bound book/pouch was attached to an old creel
that finally fell apart last Fall.
It was hanging by wire, so I just attached it to this one.
I think that maybe it had been a way to keep track of "flies" for fishing.

I tried to keep the mantel "leaf free" for a bit until it's later in the month.
Then I'll be using a wreath that has a more fall vibe.
(I'm trying to pace myself here with Fall
and not go crazy too quickly!)

I've been tweaking my flower arrangements this week;
adding in a little more Fall color.
I'll be sharing those soon.
I hope you all are having a great week.
Rain and cooler temps are getting me excited for Fall!

  2. Very cozy and perfectly fall. Love those old quilts! I wish I could find some around where I live. Seems like the only ones left are the super ugly colors and would never work with anything in my home. Sometimes I think the little old ladies that sat around making these were colored blind. ;)
