Cozy Winter Home Tours

Hi Friends, glad you're stopping by today as I'm joining in with some wonderful ladies who are sharing our take on a "Cozy Winter Home". After all the Christmas decor is stashed away it can look a little bare around the house. In January I'm ready for a more neutral look with soft and warm textures and spaces. Give me a cozy chair, a warm quilt or throw, a couple of squishy pillows, candles, a hot drink of something yummy, and of course a fire (if you can get one.) Our hostess, Amber from Follow the Yellow Brick Home came up with the perfect idea to get us in the mood for winter. I'm a believer in decorating with the seasons. And since January is winter; no way around that unless I move to Florida, that means not much color outside. Here in Missouri there are a lot of evergreens and bare branches, but no leaf color or flowers. This is the time of year to roll with the neutral colors of nature. After Christmas I like to keep out a few faux stems of evergreen boughs and branches sprinkled with pinecones and acorns.

The Hearth Room is my designated cozy space. My slipcovered sofa and chair just beckon to me to come curl up for a little nap. Adding a fire and a quilt is a sure way to drift off for a little shut eye from a busy day.

My mantel is back to pre-holiday normalcy. I placed a few mercury glass candle holders on the mantel to echo the fire and large candle glow. It's so cozy in here when the lights are low. I wish I could have captured that better in a pic.

My large Birch Wrapped candle is nestled in some moss in an antique Staffordshire ironstone tureen on my little "white and chippy" tool bench. The bench is just big enough to toast your toes in front of the fire, or set that cup of cocoa. The tray is one I painted several years ago and papered with antique French Lesson sheets under glass.

The vintage wire basket on the hearth is filled with faux evergreen branches, pinecones, and some deer shed antlers for a little more of the rustic look.

The little evergreen trees are leftovers from Christmas decor. Just because Christmas is over, doesn't mean "winter" is over. Actually, we really get our winter weather here in January and February.

I'm still using my Toile pillows from Christmas, 

but they're some of my favorites so I use them year round.

A stack of decor magazines makes it easy to sit down 

with a cup of coffee for some quick inspiration.

I didn't use my Boxwood topiaries for Christmas, but I grabbed them
for some January greenery and my artichoke chalk pieces to fill things in.
An oil painting and old empty gold oval frame even things out.

I always keep a few old books for adding a little height to a vignette.
