There have been many times I've wanted to ignore this scripture from 1 Thessalonians that says: "Be joyful always, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Not that our circumstances are something that is "God's will" or that we need to be happy about, but that whatever we are going through we can count on God being with us and leading us. Philippians 4:6 reminds us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God." That's what I'm trying to focus on this week. Not to be anxious and under stress with my circumstances, but to be thankful that my Father God has a good plan and is in control.
I'm thankful for all of you... thank you for your care and friendship. I'm praying you have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.
I think you must have been reaching out to me, and while I am more of what gets labeled a secular humanist, we are of the same or similar minds. I just got home from hours dedicated to the Food Bank of Central NY where I live. Providing basic meals with some holiday "treats" to over 90 families in this one small community. While my efforts are more inspired by what I can do for others on this earth, and ours come from a Christian belief system, what we are all trying to do is care for the needy and provide for others less fortunate that us. Love, Sue
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on thanksgiving. no matter what point of view we come from we all think and feel alike. Good principles are universal in all our lives. You're doing some wonderful work for those that really need a little extra TLC over the holidays. Have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones Debra. Like joy and cheer at Christmas and blessing and gratiful and thankfulness we should keep it all year round not just at this special time of year. Wouldn't our lives all be so much more if we all kept the wonderful feelings of the holidays all year round. Thank you for sharing your friendship.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving.
