Late Summer Seed Box

August will be here before we know it, and with August my decor palette changes with the season. I start thinking about the beginning of Fall and all the subtle color that comes with it, but for now I'm still in Summer Mode. Today I'm sharing a staple of my vintage Summer decor.

I've had to rethink decorating spots here at the new house, since I'm using different pieces of furniture in different places. My farm table in the Garden Room has become an easy place to add another small vignette or seasonal grouping of things. My Mandeville & King Flower Seed Box that I love to use Spring through Summer, needs a bigger spot with a way to prop open the lid. It was always too big for the Baker's Rack at the last house because it impeded the flow of traffic. In other words, you couldn't open and close the blinds without knocking into it.

These pics were taken last week when I had the Oak Leaf Hydrangeas in the wooden bucket. They've since dried out and have been replaced with a faux Sunflower arrangement. I've realized the squirrels were gnawing on my wooden ice cream bucket and that it would only be a matter of time before it was ruined. My husband reminded me that critters go for the salt that had over the years soaked into the wood. So now it will stay in the house where tiny teeth can't get to it.

Vintage Seed packets, small bee skeps, vintage flower pots, my cute little chicken bud vase, and a vintage sugar bowl/honey pot (?) are there with an old rake head.

I introduced this sweet little vintage chicken bud vase a week or so ago,
 with the rest of the chicken gang.

I love the graphics on vintage recipe and "household helps" pamphlets that were so popular back in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Insurance companies and manufacturing companies handed out a variety of these information mini magazines along with plates, glassware and knick-knacks. They had interesting info with a subtle nod to their company and products. This one is from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. from 1948.

There are a few missing bird beaks and the blooms are chipped,

but this little piece still has a ton of vintage charm.
