An Easter Mantel in the Hearth Room

I haven't gone all out for Spring and Easter decor this year because I really don't have a lot of my dishes and seasonal pottery unpacked. Back in August when I started packing up all the seasonal dishes and decor I had no concept that we wouldn't be fully moved in until Spring. It's probably a good thing that I was ignorant, otherwise I've had been even more stressed out about the whole process.

I had a few tubs in the garage that I raided back in early March anticipating decorating for Spring and Easter, but all my figural pitchers and Spring themed goodies are still in a storage unit. So, I'm using what I was able to grab, and added those things to the mantel.

If you look closely you'll see items tweaked and moved around a little. It takes me awhile to decide what looks best, where. Here's a lamp; now it's gone. Here's a vintage print; now it's on the other side. oh well, I know that many of you are the same way... and usually it takes looking at a photo to give me the final decision. It's crazy what we miss when just looking at something versus through the lens of a camera.

I found these little vintage mdf cutouts a few years ago and have really enjoyed using them for Easter decorating.

Here are a few more pics of the Hearth Room. I'm so sorry for the poor lighting; it's naturally dim in here because of the lack of direct sunlight. Which means I have to turn on the overhead lights and lighten things up when editing. It's such a cozy little spot, I just keep a table lamp on most of the time, so I don't miss the strong direct lighting. I'm sure that originally the opening to the Garden Room was a set of patio or French doors to a back patio.

This little white bench which was handmade in Marietta, Georgia back in the 80's, almost didn't make it to this house. It had been in the back hallway at the other house. I literally didn't know what to do with it so the movers just set it down there... and it stayed put. Now, it's a perfect place to set a glass or cup.

Seeing things from all these different angles helps to get an idea of how this space sits in the house. The French doors are into my office, which is still an untidy mess. Hopefully I'll be able to pull things together soon to share. Same with the kitchen; I'm still working on things.

I'd have to say that right now this space is my favorite in the house. It's so easy to sit down with my laptop and take a little break from the kitchen. I'm looking forward to using the back porch soon. We've been waiting for someone to come help us with the outside clean up chores, but my wicker outdoor pieces and potting bench are calling my name.

Be sure and come back Monday when I'll be participating in a big fun Blog Hop,

  2. I'm so envious of your ability to decorate! I am still organizing how I'm packing so I can "think" it makes sense for how I'll pull things out again, but it's getting a little crazy at times. Believe it or not, I have my kitchen already set up in the condo, with enough in the house to keep short order meals. Getting closer to my goal, hoping to be moved with what we're taking by end of April. Then it's just a matter of hoping new owners want to buy what's left (or have the auction house take it on consignment). Spring is my favorite season, but it looks like it'll be summer before I'm able to really decorate. I think I'll just wait for fall.....{sigh}

    1. WOW, sounds like you're really making progress, Rita. Being able to get your kitchen together is a major accomplishment. I know you guys are working hard and I'm excited to see pics of your wonderful new place. It's hard having two houses, but really it makes the actual move and transition so much easier. I packed like you're doing it too. Put things together for where they'd go at the new place, instead of where they were coming from. It's been easier to get organized from the start that way. I say grab some fresh flowers or blooming branches and call that "Spring Decor".
