Easy and Instant Patriotic Decor

Today I realized if I didn't make a little effort to put together some decor for the 4th, it would really be too late. I've been enjoying decorating with a Patriotic theme for my whole life, and I didn't want this to be the year to not continue. The 4th of July holiday epitomizes the feel for summer fun... trips to the lake, cookouts, family get-togethers. When I was a kid that meant that there were always family gatherings with fireworks, a grill, and several buckets of homemade ice cream.

This year I'm doing good to find my stash of little cemetery flags and add them to an existing flower arrangement. My unexpected and emergency vascular surgery a couple of weeks ago has put a major kink in my decorating mojo. I'm feeling stronger each day and can do a little more, but I still try to take it easy and not push myself. I don't want any kind of repeat or complication of that ordeal. So, I'm trying to be good.

Looking around the house I wanted to add some red/white/blue but it was going to have to be a no-brainer. I thought my white wicker demi-john on the coffee table in the Living Room could handle a few antique flags and some wind-y, vine-y, weed-y accents for a quick makeover.

Everything at the house has basically been the same since early May; kind of a time warp of decor. I allowed myself one trip to the storage room downstairs and a short rummage through the flower bins in the garage. So I added a few white silk Hydrangea blooms to the Paperwhites in the entry... and more little flags.

I found this old spindle that had been turned into a candleholder that I've had for years and cannot remember where I found it. Two small flags and more white weeds with a moss base added another little piece of patriotic interest to the Entry console table.

Here are a few pics from earlier July 4th decor where little flags came to the rescue. They are easy to find at flea markets during the summer months, and I'm sure places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels have them too. If they look too new and you don't have years to have them in a box then a little tea staining will do the trick.

(I hunted for these white geraniums but couldn't find them anywhere...)

(I think this may be my most "Pinned" image)

I added one to an old Mason Jar a couple of years ago to use with tea lights.

Here's another, where I added it to an old ticking feather pillow.

Thankyou again, for all of you who left comments and FB comments on my last post. The way Blogger has messed up our emails from the comments has been a real downer on being able to make a return reply. Please just know I really appreciate all the prayers and concerns for my health. It may take awhile but I'm making progress. Love you all!!!
