Farmhouse Sunflower Tabletop

One of my favorite combinations for Summer is Sunflowers and Ticking... nothing fancy, just rustic and vintage. I thought I'd try something very "summery" this year on the Dining Room table, using one of my old wooden ice cream maker buckets. This old bucket had been a pretty vintage blue/green, but I painted it out in an antique white to make it more "decor friendly". Filled up with faux Sunflowers, sitting on an Indigo Ticking table runner, it says Summer Farmhouse to me.

I'm continuing to use my little French wagon that I painted out this Spring. It's a good spot to elevate and corral a few vintage pieces; this time it's herding a group of Chalkware Chickens, a Bee Skep, and a few vintage clay pots.

Here's a post from last Summer where I share the

and a
that came later in the Summer.

I'm getting the house ready for Marty's Summer Home Tour starting next week.
Hope you'll follow along for the fun,
I'll be sharing my rooms on Friday June16.

  1. So many pretties, would you consider loaning me your table wagon? Loving your complete table scape, very farm house. Did you make your ticking table runner? I love to see what bloggers do for each season, so many ideas to borrow. You always have great ideas for decorations which I so enjoy seeing.
    Enjoy rest of week.-

    1. I'm lazy, that's just my signature "buy 3 yards of fabric and fold it linkwise" way to make a tablerunner. I hate to sew, so that's my tablerunner "hack"!

  2. Debra,
I passed up buying a vintage ice cream bucket a few years ago and often wish I had bought it. Yours filled with sunflowers is a bright summery spot on your table.

    1. thanks Judith, I have had several, I think I still have another one that's original, then since I didn't want to be a hoarder I gave one to my sister.

  3. Love that, Debra! I was finally playing with dishes in my kitchen (3 mos after finishing the updates) and sunroom yesterday (not since Christmas!). I placed my chalkware chickens int he kitchen - very special to me in that they came from a local restaurateur's (she was my mother's age) personal collection. Guess what the husband's only dislike was? Yep. Your cart idea is a nice inspiration for me to figure out a way to subtly use them elsewhere. Thanks!

    1. have you shown them on your blog, Rita? If you have sorry I missed them, I'd love to see them, and your kitchen turned out fabulous! I'd say you need to decorate your husband's bedside nightstand with them, he'd really appreciate that, ha ha!
