Starting on Spring...

Last week I mentioned a trip to my favorite local floral store. I guess they're sort of a local wholesale supply store for florists, designers, and shop owners. You never know for sure what they will have and if you're not an early seasonal shopper you just miss out. They're never sure if they'll get more in, so if you want it, you get it when you see it.

I'd been thinking about a larger rabbit for Spring and Easter, but I wanted him to be "realistic". I found this guy, (only one left other than him) but he was a little splotchy. He was truly "distressed", and I'm a firm believer that all those manufacturers of decor in China just don't get the whole concept of "distressed". It's more like "painful".

and I think he's much more handsome with all the "holes" covered.

When I go to the trouble of getting out my paints and brushes and making a big mess, I always have to make my time worthwhile by searching for other decor victims items in need of sprucing up. One of the mega sized PB lanterns got a little gray/griege combo, and now it's not quite so eye jarringly "white". In the past I only used it at Christmas, and each time I'd look at it I'd think if it was only a little more muted I would use it more often. Now, I just have to hunt the other one down and give it the same treatment.

Then the bigger deal was staring at me... this little black wagon, which is the perfect size for a table-top vignette, except for the fact that it was black and it just wasn't matching other table-top decor options. slop, slop, swish, swish... it's now gray/taupe/mushroom. I used a mix of ASCP and some interior wall paint samples from the move and it took several coats to get it covered, especially the metal wheels and handle.

 It was cute black and good for Fall and Halloween, but that was about it.

Now that I have the basics all painted out in similar hues of grays and neutrals, I'm ready to get started on the decorating part. Not sure where I go from here, but I think it probably involves some moss, nests, and eggs.
