A January Entry

I always tend to lean toward a more neutral and white color palette during the month of January. Whether it's due to the oversaturation of color during Fall and Christmas, or because it's bleak and snowy outside, I seem to crave a clean look after the new year. Clean and fresh feeling whites and neutrals are what I need, because once Spring starts to creep up out of the landscape the rest of the year means "color".

I've had this faux Amaryllis for a bit, and since I don't usually have it out at Christmas, I like to use it in my white decor during the winter. I have another white Amaryllis arrangement (a little bigger), and it's currently on the mantel. (My version of "Lost in Space")

Actually, the flower had been in a smaller wire basket, 

but I transferred it to this iron urn for a little more visual heft.

I kept the Boxwood wreath here on the mirror,

 but decided I'd go crazy

with some darker Leopard print gold wired ribbon.

I've said many times how I love to rotate the prints here on the Entry console for the Holidays and Seasons. I have a lot of vintage and smallish prints, and since I don't have a ton of wall space here, this is an easy spot to change up.

In my opinion a print or painting will always set the tone and feeling of a space, probably more than any other decorating element. I love English and French landscapes, but they're hard to find, even reproduction canvas and prints. Now, if you're lucky enough to find an old oil painting it will cost a fortune. I think I'll just go for a reproduction print and look for a vintage or antique frame.

I thought I had the artist's name of these prints, but I've done some Internet searching and still can't find the exact artist. (I think they are Thomas Sidney Cooper) Anyway, my husband bought these companion pieces for me long time ago and what I really love is that if you look closely you can see the opposite piece in the main painting. See the cattle in the lower right...?

 Well, here they are.
