I always tend to lean toward a more neutral and white color palette during the month of January. Whether it's due to the oversaturation of color during Fall and Christmas, or because it's bleak and snowy outside, I seem to crave a clean look after the new year. Clean and fresh feeling whites and neutrals are what I need, because once Spring starts to creep up out of the landscape the rest of the year means "color".
I've had this faux Amaryllis for a bit, and since I don't usually have it out at Christmas, I like to use it in my white decor during the winter. I have another white Amaryllis arrangement (a little bigger), and it's currently on the mantel. (My version of "Lost in Space")
Actually, the flower had been in a smaller wire basket,
but I transferred it to this iron urn for a little more visual heft.
I kept the Boxwood wreath here on the mirror,
but decided I'd go crazy
with some darker Leopard print gold wired ribbon.
I've said many times how I love to rotate the prints here on the Entry console for the Holidays and Seasons. I have a lot of vintage and smallish prints, and since I don't have a ton of wall space here, this is an easy spot to change up.
In my opinion a print or painting will always set the tone and feeling of a space, probably more than any other decorating element. I love English and French landscapes, but they're hard to find, even reproduction canvas and prints. Now, if you're lucky enough to find an old oil painting it will cost a fortune. I think I'll just go for a reproduction print and look for a vintage or antique frame.
I thought I had the artist's name of these prints, but I've done some Internet searching and still can't find the exact artist. (I think they are Thomas Sidney Cooper) Anyway, my husband bought these companion pieces for me long time ago and what I really love is that if you look closely you can see the opposite piece in the main painting. See the cattle in the lower right...?
Well, here they are.
...and if you look closely here, you'll see the sheep in the lower left.
OK, so that's my January Entry.
Do you have a "go-to" January decor theme or color?
(Maybe just "clean" without glitter?)

xoxo,
Very pretty and fresh. Loved learning about the reflection of each picture in the other.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I love the fresh feeling and the neutrals colors...the prints are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! I wish I could find a faux amarylis! I am taking Christmas down now, and I do "winter" on my mantle, coffee table and dining room table as well as the dining room table. I'll be sharing it all soon.
ReplyDeleteI think we all feel that way at this time of year. It's that need for cleansing the palate and decompressing before the next chapter, season, meal, etc... Love what you did, and I absolutely love the prints!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Debra. :)
ReplyDeleteYour entry display is lovely and perfect for winter.
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Love your prints and frames too, both complement one another handsomely. Enjoy seeing nice sedate arrangement, lovely way to greet family and friends. At same time as I enjoyed all the glitz of holidays am enjoying calm just as much, (or more).
ReplyDeleteHave been on lookout for nice prints of animals to hang on walls. Do have one I got from Anne at White Lace Cottage few months ago. Bought frame at Goodwill yesterday so think it's time to make good use of it.
Also got lovely open aqua wire shelves in shape of bird cage at Michaels with lovely 50% off coupon, have been waiting to hang up shelves, will put some lovely bird prints from The Graphics Fairy around/on them on wall. Not wintry but at least softly sedate. Will need to rearrange wall but maybe that's good idea, getting boring.
You inspire me, admire greatly your style. Seems like I learn so much from bloggers like yourself. Who says old dogs can't learn new tricks? Don't mimic exactly, take from your style what feels right for me.
Wishing you happy Happy New Year and abundant good health
I agree with you on a neutral palette in winter. I love to reflect the outdoors, although some like bright colors to contrast it.
ReplyDeleteEverything is beautiful, Debra, and I didn't skip a beat in noticing your new profile pic. You are gorgeous and I love your hairstyle. Should I ever go short, this would be my style!

Thanks Jane, I'm trying a new style. One side is shorter and above my ear, the other side I'm letting grow longer. Kind of asymmetrical. I'm not photogenic at all. I had to work to get a decent pic!
DeleteWhat a sweet pairing of prints. Yes, I definitely have gone neutral for January!
ReplyDeleteYour entry is beautiful! Yes, I go with a more neutral color decor this time of year, as well.
ReplyDeleteYou have the best collection of prints, Debra! I absolutely love the two you've featured today. Your entryway looks fresh and ready for the new year! I just packed away the rest of my Christmas stuff last night, so I'll be tinkering around with walls and mantels until I get it "right".
ReplyDeleteLovely arrangement on the table
ReplyDeleteYou do have the best collection of prints! I am pea green with envy. Your entryway looks so pretty and fitting for a new year. I'm with you I love putting away Christmas decorations and dreaming and hoping about a New Year!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. Calming. Turned out perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThe entryway is so lovely. I agree about leaning towards the neutrals in January. It probably is because of the colors of Christmas. I like your idea about changing out the prints. I need to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteLove the foyer!...You have always dressed your foyers so beautifully!....the prints are so beautiful and love your neutral palette! Have a great week Debra!
ReplyDeleteHi Debra. What a pretty look and I do love your choice of artwork. So classic. Hope you're feeling well.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Your winter decor looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteBecause it is glistening and snowy for a looooong time after Christmas here, I keep whites, silver, shimmery and glittery out - it's streamlined but wintery and looks "right" for this area.
Hope to share living room pics soon. I shared my first of the winter pieces today.
Hope your new year is going well for you so far - and that it is healthy and full of fun. Hugs!
Love the observations on the prints. So sweet. Your entryway looks fantastic. I decorate for winter with a little sparkle and lots of white.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I love this vignette! Such a pretty and elegant greeting when you enter! I do love lots of white this time of year myself! I would love it if you would stop by and share this at the Celebrate Your Story! link party! Here is the link if you have a moment! http://celebrateanddecorate.com/celebrate-story-60/
