Each year I see the wonderful twig pumpkins all lit up with fairy lights and I think, "I'm going to get one of those next year!!", and each year it escapes me until we're already into the season. So I thought of this idea, not near as much "wow factor", but still pretty. It would work for a Thanksgiving or any Harvest Tablescape, since it wouldn't interfere with conversation across the table.
This is super simple to do and most of us have at least one of these twig pumpkins hanging around. You can find them anywhere and now for only a few dollars... unlike the large PB lighted pumpkin of a few years back, which cost more than a few dollars.
This little twig guy is setting in an antique ironstone hexagon shaped pedestal, that has a few inches depth in the bottom. I've never had a lid, so I usually just keep faux apples or pears in it. It works perfectly for this idea. I used two sets of battery powered 20 rice lights from Hobby Lobby. (not much with a discount going on now) I just stuffed the lights in through an opening in the bottom and spread them around with a long straw. They had green wiring so you can't see it through the twigs and you don't have a plug-in to worry about if you're using it on a table. The pumpkin sits on top so you don't see the battery boxes.
Only problem is it doesn't photograph well,
since the lights are so teensy.
...and my camera wasn't picking them up in the early evening light.
But, they're in there!
Another little DIY idea, that is not original, but still fun. And useful,
if you're trying to think of an easy table centerpiece at the last minute.
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
Enjoy those gorgeous leaves before they've all blown away!
