They were a huge fad a few years ago, but now they've become a staple in vintage home and garden decor. In the last few years I've bought and sold many of them, but now I'm keeping the ones I have left to sprinkle here and there, in the house and garden. Here are just a few I grabbed for a photo vignette.
We've had parakeets and a conure in the past, but cats and birds in the same household can be a little stressful on everyone. (mostly the birds) But an empty birdcage is a little sad to me, so fill it with something fun and it feels like a cloche; a great place to display plants, candles, flower pots, even dishes, but don't forget the little birdies!
(the backdrop is my antique dressing screen that I papered in pages from an antique French Language Lesson book).

I like your background much better than the magazines, Debra! I love birdcages, too, and have a few sprinkled throughout our home. I usually stick a nest and eggs in them and, of course, the required bird {even if it is fake}. Your white one is such a great piece.

ReplyDeleteOh Debra, these cages are awesome! I have been seeing more and more of them as well. I remember back in the 80's I had a few white wicker ones that I filled up with stuff. Today's current, and vintage style ones are so much nicer! Lovely copy and I am so happy you shared it!

I've blogged about my vintage cages in the past, along with 1950's photos of my Nana with her Pete the parakeet (one of many, all named Pete just as ours were in the 60's). ReplyDeleteI have 3 birdcage type things. One I started using as a bird feeder outside, one is a clock and the other is shaped like a house. The clock one needs to be painted white I think after looking at yours.
