I've been showing my age this week by admitting
that Sunburst Mirrors are a throwback to my youth.
Even as a little kid, I much preferred antiques to trends.
But I have to admit that the resurgence of this particular design
has been swaying me a little.
They're starting to look good...
really good...
and I decided that I wanted to get on board of the train.
My older daughter does trends "well".
She knows when to jump in,
and in a conversation just yesterday she said,
"Mom, you might as well go for it,
cause you're going to end up liking them anyway,
Don't be late to the party."
I like how the design can go from these more formal rooms...
to a more "informal" setting.
Classic or trendy...
and made from some alternative sources...
I guess they are a decor accessory that's here to stay...
at least for awhile.
I'll show you where mine is going next week!
Don't forget Vintage Inspiration is still going strong,
just scroll down to the next post.
xoxo,
Now THIS is a great collection of sunburst mirrors. I don't have one, and I am old enough to remember the first time too! lol I pinned this post. Nice, varied renditions. Thanks for putting them together.
ReplyDeleteYou found some I like, I wasn't on board before, but there are two or three on your list I could live with.

I use to feel the same way as you and thought they reminded me too much of the 60's and 70's, but then I liked how people were using them in some room settings and changed my mind. I bought one and used it for a short time, but then parted with it. It just wasn't working for me anymore. I do like them though.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think I'm liking the striking trend! Each sunburst was incredibly unique. Some I liked more than others, but for the most part, they are all captivating! I can't wait to see your sunburst, Debra!

LOL, I guess I'm so far out of style, I'm almost back "in". I actually have a small sunburst mirror on the stairwell wall with some family photos...you know mirrors to make a dark space bright?
ReplyDeleteThe sunburst mirrors DO make a nice statement though.
Hugs and thanks for visiting,
Babs
I also want to get on that train! Hope to find one before is too late!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great collection! I like them but like everything we love, the setting and material needs to fit the room. I like the variations on the theme bc it shows they can be used in a wide variety of settings, not just contemporary! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI guess like you, I so remember these the first time around. Can't wait to see what you do. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI have a huge old starburst wall clock. When my daughter moved into an old house it was there above the fireplace. She was trashing it and I came to the rescue. It just called out to me. This was about 4 years ago and my hubby and I love it!
ReplyDeleteshowing my age too i guess cuz they are from my past! But your examples are beyond eras...stunning!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these are truly icons for the time!!
They are growing on me, too, Debra! I love the inspiration photos, and all the examples with unusual materials are really creative!
ReplyDeleteWOW ALL I can say is WOW. Love the entire collection what a terrific post

Haha this is so funny. When they started showing I thought to myself...I never did like these things. Now I don't dislike them I just don't think it goes with my decor.

I Love the trend, but I tend to love anything that brings back Happy Memories, I was born in 1956, so remember them well from the 60's... Love the photos you shared, My Favorite is the sunburst above the bed with the little round mirrors, I would certainly hang that with Pride~ Have a wonderful weekend....

I love the atomic looking mirror in the cabinlike bedroom. Great examples Debra.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunburst collection:) Can't wait to see yours and where you put it! Have a blessed day dear Debra, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteDon't think of these as a trend. Think more of a classic...kinda like a little black dress that never goes out of style. I think you made a wise investment and am looking forward to see which you picked for you!
ReplyDeleteDeb
There is something very chic about these mirrors~I agree. But I don't have one~yet!
ReplyDeleteWell Great! Now I want one too! I always thought of them as dated and 60's but they are pretty cool aren't they! XO Cindy
ReplyDeleteGreat post! And everyone you picked was fabulous. I think it's one of those design elements that if done right is gorgeous...like that gold one above the couch. Swoon worthy!
ReplyDeleteHeather
Beautiful images Debra, I can't wait to see yours!
ReplyDeleteUmmm at first I wasn't sure, but as I read more and saw some more pictures I have decided there are definatly some of the sunburst mirrors I would have in my house :}

Debra these are some beauties, that's for sure. I remember the one my mom had years ago and the sunburst clock that her best friend had hanging in her home. I don't think they are me...but who knows. If I found some chippy and crusty enough I just might change my mind :)
ReplyDeletehugs...
What we throw out today,we will be wanting again in 20yrs or so.
ReplyDeleteI remember how awful I thought the sunburst mirrors were, even back then, but now, well,I don't mind them at all. Not in my home though, but in the right setting yes, nice.
xx jeanetteann
I must admit, I'm falling for the sunburst as well. They really do bring drama and focus to the room.
