Vintage Inspiration Friday #18 Counting Down to the New Year

So, I have this sideboard in my hallway.
It's really too big for the space, but it's in sight of the kitchen
and I walk by it a million times a day.
It's my favorite spot to decorate along with my sunroom.
But the sideboard gets totally redone each month.
(slight obsession here)

I've wanted to put together a shelf filled with my tarnished silver
and thought that celebrating the beginning of the New Year
would be perfect "timing".

I realize that it's not the best fit, but it will probably only be here for a few weeks.
I'd love to have a cabinet just for my silver, but as yet I haven't figured that one out.

Please try and ignore the ginormous brass doorbell and ill placed thermostat.

(shhhhh...I'm already planning my Valentine Display)

Here are a few photos and links of some of the posts from last week.
Just some fun photos that deserve a shout out!

Top Projects of 2010

This year seems to have been a year when I went from project to project.
Seeing all the great inspiration out here in blogland from you all,
definitely lit a fire under my fanny
to lighten and brighten and "whiten" up my home.

I tried a few things that I never would have thought about before
...slipcovering two red chairs in my Living Room,
and adding chair slips to my Dining Room chairs.

Oh, but I'm so glad I did, and I don't regret one little ounce of paint or sweat!

I'm linking up to Rhoda for her Top Projects Party,
can't wait to see what everyone else has been doing this year!

If you've visited from a party hope you'll come back!

hugs,
Debra

Holy Matrimony

Today is our Anniversary and I wanted to share a little of what I did yesterday.
The urge to re-do the hall sideboard got the better of me,
but I'm only showing one shelf of my makeover.

I found this Marriage Certificate from December 30, 1924
and decided it needed to be the focal point for my creative project.

I love old documents, and the graphics and fonts on this are just beautiful.

It makes me a little sad to think this wonderful keepsake found it's way to a flea market.

Still in love all these years later...

(It's a silver extravaganza!)

Oh, that face...

It's no secret that with two married daughters, I'm old enough to have grandkids, but alas, I have none; only a grandpuppy and grandkitties. Vinny, (Vincenzo) a French Bulldog, is the newest member of the family and he belongs to Erin and Keith, our St. Louis kids. Spoiled is a word that comes to mind. Notice the quilted barn coat and rhinestone collar. But hey, he's so darn cute you can't blame them.

Puppy portraits...
(Gee, I love this new camera!)

Erin and Keith

and Aly and Chris,
waiting to unwrap gifts.
Our tradition is to open them Christmas Eve.

I was in my pajamas and glasses, so no photos of moi.
you'd thank me.

I'm looking forward to the New Year,
but first our Anniversary, tomorrow.
Hope you are recovering from the Christmas Rush.
I spent all day Sunday in my Jammies.

love to all,
Debra

Vintage Inspiration Friday #17: The Reason for the Season

And that true reason for Christmas
is the birth of our Savior.

These are just a few items of the "real" Christmas decor items
that can be found at my house this Christmas...

This book is in "immaculate" condition,
published in 1931.

The graphics are just amazing!

A musical snow globe,
One of the many nativities that my husband has given to me over the years.

I have a small collection of these religious prints on mirrors from the 1930's.

And a small nativity set at home this time of year,
 in my Mandeville Seed box.

I'd like to share a few photos of last week's partiers.
Each one of you have the best posts,
I just grabbed a few photos, in no particular order.

So many talented people out there!
If you don't take the time to visit all the inspiration,
you're really missing out!

Hope you'll join in on this last party before Christmas.

I just want to wish each one of you a very Blessed and Merry Christmas. You all are just such a wonderful "present" to me. Each day I look forward to seeing what you're doing, to say Hello, and to exchange ideas and inspiration.
And speaking of the real meaning of Christmas, if you haven't come by my Bible Study Blog, "a day in the life",  I'm issuing a special invitation. You don't have to join. There's no homework. It's just my thoughts and Biblical teaching on scripture. Right now I'm reposting a series about Jesus' Mother, Mary. Hope you'll come by.

Have a blessed and beautiful Christmas Weekend!
love you all,
Debra

p.s. It's supposed to be a White Christmas here in Missouri!
